Public Hearing Announced for Proposed Laurel River Sewage Discharge

GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION DIVISION

 

Liberty County Development Authority

Tradeport East Water Reclamation Facility (WRF)

National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES)

Permit No. GA0039101

 

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) will be holding a public meeting at

7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2009. A public hearing will immediately follow this

public meeting at 8:00 p.m. Both will be held at the Midway Civic Center, located at 9397

East Oglethorpe Highway, Midway, Georgia 31320.

 

The purpose of the public meeting and hearing will be to present and receive comments on

the draft NPDES permit for the Liberty County Development Authority Tradeport East

Water Reclamation Facility (WRF). This permit includes a new discharge of 2.0 MGD with

an expansion to 3.0 MGD of treated wastewater to be discharged to the Laurel View River

in the Ogeechee River Basin. The WRF is located at 2170 Sunbury Road in Midway,

Georgia 31320.

 

THE PUBLIC MEETING AND HEARING WILL BE CONFINED TO WATER QUALITY

ISSUES. THIS HEARING WILL NOT CONSIDER LAND USE OR ZONING ISSUES.

 

The public meeting at 7:00 p.m. will be held as an open forum where information will be

available regarding the draft permit, facility design, discharge location, engineering review,

and modeling. Liberty County Development Authority and EPD will have representatives

available to answer questions concerning the proposed project.

 

The public hearing starting at 8:00 p.m. is a formal process to receive comments on the

draft permit. Participants intending on presenting oral or written comments for the record

are requested to register upon arrival. Hearing participants will not be subject to questions

from the audience, but may be questioned by the Hearing Officer for clarification of

technical points or to develop a better understanding of statements. Lengthy statements or

statements of a considerable technical or economic nature should be submitted in writing

for the official record. During the hearing, oral statements shall be limited to five minutes to

permit everyone an opportunity to be heard. Written comments are welcomed. To ensure

their consideration, written comments should be received by close of business February 3,

2009. Address comments to: Director, Environmental Protection Division, Department of

Natural Resources, 2 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, Suite 1152 S.E., Floyd Towers East,

Atlanta, Georgia 30334. The permit application, draft permit, comments received, and

other information are available for review at 4220 International Parkway, Suite 101, Atlanta,

Georgia 30354 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday and

during normal business hours at the Liberty County Development Authority office located at

425 West Oglethorpe Highway, Hinesville, Georgia 31313. Please bring this notice to the

attention of interested persons.
